Summer Vacataion (Virginia) July 28, 2008

After Provo Sharla, Allie, Bree and myself went back to Virginia to visit Shelli and her family. We flew in Tuesday night. Wednesday morning Shelli went into labor. What perfect timing. We watched Liam while Shelli and Lige went to the hospital. Later that night we took Liam to visit his new sister Remy June. Unfortunately, Allie and Bree couldn’t go in the room to visit Shelli, which broke Allie’s heart. Also they were running tests and cleaning Remy up when we got there so we were only able to see her through the nursery window. Shelli and Remy were able to come home the next day. It was so much fun having a newborn around. She is such a good baby, She would hardly make a peep.

Saturday, we decided to let Shelli and Lige have some alone time. We took Liam and the girls to the Air and Space Museum, which is only 10 min. away from the house. It was a lot of fun seeing all of the different planes and the space shuttle. I have to admit I was pretty amazed by the shuttle and satellites. The shuttle looked like it could have been made out of paper mache and some of the satellites looked like they were wrapped in tin foil.

On Sunday Lige took us all (except Shelli and Remy) to Washington D.C. I had never been to D.C. and Shelli was feeling bad that I wouldn’t see any of the great places in our nations capital. Our first stop was Arlington National Cemetery. There was such a great feeling of respect and honor as we walked around looking at all of the soldiers that had given their lives to help defend our freedom. The one bad part was the humidity. I have learned that I would much rather hand out in 100+ weather than in 85-degree weather and high humidity. I felt like I had stood out in a rainstorm before we got back in the car. After Arlington we went to the Washington Mall. I have seen lots of pictures of the monuments and memorials but it was even better seeing them in person.

We then proceeded to the Washington D.C. temple. Which by the way is actually in Maryland. It was gorgeous of course and a fun way to end our day.

On Monday Shelli decided she would venture out into the real world and take us shopping. We had a great time. After returning home we went to the park just behind their house. This was Remy’s first official adventure outside. It is a great park with lots of jungle gyms and swings that the kids could play on.

Tuesday morning we got up bright and early so that we could catch our flight home. This flight seemed so much longer that the flight out. Part of the problem was that I had my watch on Virginia time and so when Sharla asked me what time it was we thought we only had an hour left. Oops! Our landing flight was on California time. Three hours later than we had originally thought. Ughh!

Overall the trip was wonderful. I’m so glad that I was able to hanging out with Sharla, Shelli, and their families.

Summer Vacation

Filed under: Family, Outdoors — Shana @ 10:45 am

Well you have been reading about Andy’s boring summer as he sits in his hotel room Lucky for me my summer as been a lot more adventurous. The other day I realized that I hadn’t been and wouldn’t be home for more then five days in a row until school starts again.

I started the summer off up at the mountain. I have found I really miss staying up there. When Andy originally told me that he wanted to work on the mountain all summer I had a fit. The last thing I wanted to do was sit by myself all day with no one around. Boy was I wrong. I loved having all day to myself. I was amazed how much scrap booking, reading, and napping I got done. This summer I have missed those lazy days.

I went up to Provo to visit Andy and break up some of his boring, mundane days. We went up to Sundance Resort and rode bikes with Owen and Serretta. The first trail wasn’t that great. It was basically all down hill. Our second trial was perfect. As we rode down the trail we were surrounded by pine trees. It was gorgeous. The one down fall was the silk worms. By the time we made it down to the end of the trail we had silk worms all over us.

Last night I was lucky enough to go to dinner with my cousin Mikey, I love the name Mikey.

We visited for a good couple of hours and it was very nice to see a familiar face.  Mikey has become my latest hope of this viral self marketing program I’ve been working on.  It’s an experiment really, a test to how willing I am to open myself to new adventures.  I figure at the very least, it will be interesting, but so far at the most it’s been boring.

Mikey says he has lots of friends, and they’re crazy enough to go to dinner with someone they don’t know.

For those of you who want to help me out, who want to beat Mikey to the punch, have no fear.  Send your friends, your family, and even aquaintances of aquaintances to this page.

I’m a regular guy, I drive a regular car, and we’ll have regular dinner.

What do you say?  I’ll pick you up at 7pm?
